Brem (Traditional Meal/Drinks)

Technorati Tags:

stay in jogja -- Brem is a special food from East Java and Bali. Brem has existed since 110 years ago. There are three kinds of brem:
  1. Madiun brem --> It tastes mix between sweet and sour. And has white-yellowish colors.
  2. Wonogiri brem --> This brem has white color with sweet flavor and it is easy to dissolve in water.

All of those brem are made of fermented-sticky rice-water which also has gone through fermentation process.

The result of experiment done by Winarno et al (1982) shows that the most chemical substance contained in solid brem are sugar, extract starch, and lactate acid. Solid brem is a good sugar supplier. In every 100 gram of brem contains 65.18 gram of sugar, so that it gives sweet taste and also as good power-supply for the body. The chemical composition of brem could be seen in the table.

Shaved Ice Seller

What is he doing ?

this is how major indonesian street vendor made shavings ice. Use some wood with a modification knife in middle of the wood and then shave your ice bar. After shave for a while you would get a bowl of shavings ice.

<br>

<br>We call that Es Campur (Mixed Ice), because he mix slices of coconut,chocolate, milk, fruit, dawet, slices of pinneapple, etc. Beside Es Campur, they sell softdrink (Fanta, Sprite, Coca Cola, Teh Botol) .

Nasi Kucing - Cat's Rice

stayinjogja--Sometimes, when you feel hungry and unfortunately just have a cents (less then IDR 10,000) in your wallet and still need to go somewhere with public bus, what will you do?

I have a suggestion, you can go to some place call angkringan (you can find what place is that in http://jogjakakilimafoods.blogspot.com) and take some pack rice known as nasi kucing (cat's rice). Is that really rice for cat? No, of course.

We call nasi kucing because it contain one grab of rice-you can measure with your hand grab- and with fried tiny sea fish.
